When I started writing, I thought that everything should be set by the writer. Say, for example, 'the moon' was strictly forbidden, it was necessary to find an adjective, an epithet for the moon. (Of course I'm simplifying things. Know because I wrote several times La luna, but this is sort of a symbol I did.) Well, I thought everything had to be defined and could not be used phrases common formulas. I never would have said, so and so went and sat down because it was too simple and too easy. I thought I had to find an interesting way to say it. Now, I found that this kind of things in general, is an annoyance to the reader. But I think the root of the matter lies in the fact that when a writer is young feel, somehow, that what we will say is rather silly or obvious, commonplace, and so tries to hide it under a Baroque ornamentation or, if not that, if it proves modern, does the opposite: it puts itself permanently to invent words or refer to planes, trains or the telegraph and the telephone because it is doing all it can to being modern. Then, as time passes, we feel that our ideas, good or bad, should try to pass this idea or that feeling or that state of mind for the reader. If, at the same time, we are trying to be, say, a Sir Thomas Browne or Ezra Pound, then it is impossible. So I think that a writer always gets to be too complicated - is to play several games simultaneously. Wants to provide a certain state of mind, at the same time has to be contemporary, and if not contemporary, then it is a reactionary and a classic. As for the vocabulary, the first thing a young writer decides to do, at least in this country, is to show his readers that have a dictionary, you know all the synonyms of a word [...]

I really like Jorge Luis Borges, so this excerpt dropped me from heaven. That is, today, we resumed the daily grind this piece of writing was a big smile, you can think about what is written and how to write or even the evolution of writing cupcakes a writer seemingly serene as it was.
